Brooklyn Center's 2011/2012 Theater Series
Brooklyn Center for the Performing Artsat Brooklyn College announces its 57th season of diverse, family friendly theater and musical theater performances, including the premiere U.S. tour of the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China; the Tony Award-nominated playSay Goodnight Gracie; the Off-Broadway hit My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy, and three theater performances for children as part of Brooklyn Center’s Target FamilyFunseries.

CONTEMPORARY VOICES
The Collegiate Chorale presents Contemporary Voices on May 21, 2012 at 7pm at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 325 Park Avenue, NYC. The concert features five musical gems by 20th and 21st Century masters of choral composition. HELP WANTED: PIRATES!
Captain Squid and his fun-loving band of pirates are being hunted by Sir Nigel, the maniacal leader of the British Navy. They need to clear out of Nigel’s waters, and fast, but there aren’t enough pirates to man the ship. In a stroke of genius, Squid recruits the audience and teaches your children the tools of the pirate trade! The audience moves from one location to the next, learning how to walk, talk and squawk like a pirate! Will Squid’s new recruits (that’s you) be ready in time to find the treasure? Mrs. Carrol's 3rd Grade Houghton Mifflin Spelling Class IRTE is heading back to school with their latest long-form improvised comedy. Long form improv is "unscripted theater" focused on developing strong, fun characters and plot. Taking just a few suggestions from the audience, the cast of Mrs. Carrol's will create a new play every night, completely on the fly. THE COLLECTED RULES OF GIFTED CAMP
Since their origins in the early 1980’s, academic summer programs for gifted teenagers have proliferated across the United States, and indeed around the world. Fueled by an increasingly competitive college admissions process, easy access to standardized qualifying tests, and parental anxiety over children’s future career prospects, these programs capitalize as well on teens’ longstanding desires to escape from adult supervision and suburban boredom. The Collected Rules of Gifted Camp explores the way these new trends collide with and transform the traditional American pastime of summer camp.
